How to Pay

The fastest and easiest way is IRS Direct Pay โ€” free, no registration required, direct bank transfer. You can also mail a check with Form 1040-ES or use EFTPS.

What Happens If You Miss a Date?

Missing or underpaying a quarterly payment triggers an underpayment penalty โ€” currently around 8% of the underpaid amount (annualized). The penalty is calculated quarter by quarter, so paying late is better than not paying at all.
